A student measures the range of sound frequencies that the human ear can hear by playing sounds for volunteers between 10 and 30

,000 Hertz and asking them to raise their hand if they were able to hear it. What type of variable is the independent variable in this experiment?

The independent variable is the sound variable. This is because the independent variables, in this case the sound frequencies, is the ones that is controlled/varied to test its effects on the capacity of the volunteers to perceive the sound. Therefore the volunteers (and their ability to perceive the different sound frequencies) are the dependent variable.

How would over expression of protein phosphatase 1 affect the induction of cAMP-inducible genes in response to hormone stimulati
finlep [7]

Answer:

The protein phosphatase-1 dephosphorylates the residues of serine, which are phosphorylated by the protein kinase A. The cyclic-AMP inducible genes are stimulated by CREB that is phosphorylated by protein kinase A. Thus, overexpression of protein phosphatase 1 would prevent their induction.

Although, protein phosphatase 1 would not influence the function of cAMP-gated ligand channels, as these channels are opened directly by binding of cAMP rather than by protein phosphorylation.

Ksju [112]
Hope this helps you.

The genes of an organism can be either a homozygous or a heterozygous one. When someone is a homozygous dominant, it means that it has two copies of the same dominant allele. Homozygous means that the organism has exact copies of the same gene allele.

Proton pumps embedded in the cell membrane use ATP to move hydrogen ions across the membrane. Which of the following best descri
DIA [1.3K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Although protons resemble other positive ions such as Na+ and K+ in their movement across membranes, in some respects they are unique. Hydrogen atoms are by far the most abundant type of atom in living organisms; they are plentiful not only in all carbon-containing biological molecules, but also in the water molecules that surround them. The protons in water are highly mobile, flickering through the hydrogen-bonded network of water molecules by rapidly dissociating from one water molecule to associate with its neighbor, Protons are thought to move across a protein pump embedded in a lipid bilayer in a similar way: they transfer from one amino acid side chain to another, following a special channel through the protein.
