They are usually categorized by two different aspects; first, whether it treats the criteria one at a time or all together, and second, whether the rubric is general, that is to say, applicable to similar tasks or task-specific applicable just to one assessment.

Particularly this last type of rubric, the task-specific rubric, details the elements to look for in a student's performance during a particular task. In other words,  task-specific rubrics are unique to a specific task since they are designed to evaluate detailed criteria regarding a specific assignment or particular task.
