In order for </span>natural selection<span> to operate on a trait, the trait must possess heritable variation and must confer an advantage in the competition for resources.</span>

They both strengthen the ecosystem. Natural selection takes out the weak and then adaptation strengthens the strong ones that are already strong. they get even better because now they are able to live in this "newer" enviornment
