The joined their ally, Austria-Hungary, in war against Serbia, after the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Serbia's rejection of the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum. This ultimatum would have basically put Hungary in charge of the Serbian government, an act of imperialism.
