Many Aryans were nomadic cattle herders, often hacking and burning farmers. An Aryan group would hack or cut the trees on a plot in the area. Months later, when the forest dried up, they set it on fire.
The ashes left from the fire fertilized the soil for a number of growing seasons. The Aryans would repeat the process in a new area, after the soil had exhausted.
The Aryans did not stay there for long, so the Aryans did not build permanent homes, unlike the Indus River Valley culture that preceded them in the region .
