The Beat Generation was a literary movement that begun in the post-war era. The authors that belonged to this movement rejected many of the values of American culture. Some of the values they criticized were those of materialism and consumerism. They were also interested in the exploration of foreign religions, experimentation with psychedelic drugs and sexual liberation.
