I believe that Gilman wrote "The Yellow Wallpaper" in the first person to make it seem more relatable to the readers and so that other women who had been treated<span> the same way could see that they were not alone. Gilman wanted to break free and do what she wanted to do with her life but at this time women weren't allowed to do anything of the sort.
