Obama sought to move away from the Bush Administration and use policies that would help to eventually curtail the war and improve the security situation for Americans, not just in the United States but all over the world.

Obama administration also felt that the war had taken a huge toll on the US economy and wanted to ensure that with better security, the US benefits with more economic prosperity as well.
