<span>Jacques Cartier faced lots of challenges, such as the time when his companions had gotten scurvy during one of his voyages. The scurvy had killed 25 of his crew members.
On his second voyage, he had taken hostages, Donnaconna (the chief), 4 children, two sons of Donnacona that had gone to France previously, and another Iroquois. All of them had died except for one little girl. When the Iroquois had heard this, they were no longer friendly to Cartier, 35 of his crew members were killed by the Iroquois but there was no war. Cartier had found gold and diamonds but they were worthless.</span>
They provided a way to transport meat to eastern markets. They allowed cowboys to travel easily between cattle herds and their homes. They made it easier for ranchers to keep track of their herds.
American reacted to Cold War uncertainties with anxiety. They were anxious and fearful of communism and resorted to conservatism. Those that were suspected of being linked to communism were denied their rights such as the right to freedom of expression. People were required to denounce communism
Langston and Martin were very close and even traveled to Nigeria together in 1960. Martin loved Langston's work because it really spoke to him and related to the civil rights movement.
