The industrial revolution created a larger gap between social classes.

Explanation:
Although the middle class grew, they still made very small wages. They became known as the working class, and they made a lot of money for factory and mine owners. The gap between factory workers' pay and the amount of money that the superior technology in factories allowed factory owners to make created a very wealthy upper class that had much more money than the working class workers they employed.
