It is a lifestyle crime.

Further Explanation:

The crime rate has spiked up in New York City in the 1980s and 1990s. But as of now, the rate has reduced and New York is the lowest of all the major cities in the USA in terms of Crime Rate. The police department of New York City has adopted Comp Stat and broken windows policing in the early 1990s. They also adopted other strategies to reduce crime.

The major factor which contributed to the drop in crime rate can be attributed to several factors for example: legalizing abortion, reduction of lead poisoning among children. There is a strong correlation that has found that violent crime rate is reduced in New York after lead was eliminated from America Gasoline in the 1970s. There is also notice of gang violence in New York City like Black Spades, Westies, MS- 13, blood, Crips.

The other crime was Subway crime and an initiative in 2012 banned people from entering the subway after a certain time. “Operation Subway Sweep” led to the arrest of 200 robbery gangs.
