Hello!

As you can see each number will switch the zeros on the number to a certain place value. Our first number is in the ten billions. The second is in the billions. We will add the number in the billions spot into the ten billion, giving us 12 billion.

We will go on with this as as follows.

12,000,000,000
+   100,000,000 (hundred millions)
---------------------
12,100,000,000

As you can see, the next number is in the hundred thousands, so we will have the ten millions and millions be zeros.

12,100,000,000
+           500,000
-----------------------
12,100,500,000
+             60,000
-------------------------
12,100,560,000
+               2,000
-------------------------
12,100,562,000.000
+                          .008 (eight thousandths)
---------------------------------------
12,100,562,000.008

I hope this helps!

Solve the equation 5x-2x^2+1
Pani-rosa [81]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

If you call "5x-2x^2+1" an "equation," then you must equate 5x-2x^2+1 to 0:

5x-2x^2+1 = 0

This is a quadratic equation.  Rearranging the terms in descending order by powers of x, we get:

-2x^2 + 5x + 1 = 0.  Here the coefficients are a = -2, b = 5 and c = 1.

Use the quadratic formula to solve for x:

First find the discriminant, b^2 - 4ac:  25 - 4(-2)(1) = 25 + 8 = 33

Because the discriminant is positive, the roots of this quadratic are real and unequal.

                                                             -b ± √(discriminant)

Applying the quadratic formula   x = --------------------------------

                                                                         2a

we get:

      -5 ± √33           -5 + √33

x = ----------------- = --------------------- and

           2(-2)                     -4

                                  -5 - √33

                                 ---------------

                                         -4
