Which statement best illustrates Parris’s character? He is more concerned with how people will react when they learn that there

are confessions than he is with the fact that innocent people will die. Confessions from people about their involvement in witchcraft could make people in the community angry, and they might rebel. The public will not accept the fact that people confessed and might try to punish them again. Those that confessed should not confess so that honest people can think that only good was done.

Answer:

  • He is more concerned with how people will react when they learn that there are confessions than he is with the fact that innocent people will die.

Explanation:

Reverend Parris is the father of Betty Parris, uncle of Abigail Williams, and priest of Salem. He isn't depicted in a positive light in this play, being portrayed by Miller from the earliest starting point as somebody who "cut a villainous path through history" who "believed he was being persecuted wherever he went." Through his actions and words, Parris "very little good to be said for him".
