It is true that dictionaries are very influential in standardizing the language. Dictionaries have actually evolved over time however, it is still defined as a source of words where you can find the definition or meanings, origins of the words, their synonyms and antonyms. It is the standard reference used in finding the definitions of the words, its uses and its etymology. The existence of the dictionaries provides a basis as to the standardization of the English language. According to history, the first dictionary is a bilingual one.
