Complex characters often  have conflicting emotions and positive and negative traits, this is what makes them complex. A good example of a complex character would be Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series. She has conflicting emotions about her family, both godly and mortal, and her relationship with the main character Percy Jackson. She also has positive traits like her cunning intelligence and Greek background, and negative traits like her lack of trust and her belief that she should be able to do everything on her own. She is so complex because of these complex traits and that makes her so relatable.
