Odysseus is the son of Laertes and is widely respected for his cunning.

In the excerpt from "The Oddysey," Odysseus admits that Laertes is his father. Besides, he acknowledges that he is acclaimed by other men and the gods  as somebody with a cunning intelligence in times of conflict and harmony.
