In 2018, Archaeologists found  a mask representing one of the greatest rulers in the history of Mexican territory: Pacal the Great, who became king at age 12 and ruled the Mayan city for over 68 years throughout his life.

The discovery came during an investigation into the El Palacio architectural ensemble at the Palenque archaeological site in Chiapas. In one of the structures, called Casa E, archaeologists have found the mask representing Pacal the Great.
