So basically whats figurative language : Figurative language is the use of words in an unusual or imaginative manner. Often figurative language involves the use of a metaphor, a simile, personification, hyperbole, idiom, a euphemism, and pun.
All you have to do is basically as you said, drop the e in exposure and add -ure to the end.

Love at first sight
This passage is describing the way Armand fell in love, in the same way everyone in his family fell in love. It describes the love as being shot by a pistol which shows that it happens immediately the first time they see the person that they are falling in love with.
