Hello Mariamars,
You said:
I'm suppose to describe a surprise party using past tense and imperfect verbs but I'm not sure how I can use imperfect verbs. Does this paragraph makes sense? Le di a mi hermana una fiesta sorpresa! ¡Es mi mejor amiga! ¡La fiesta de cumpleaños de mi hermana tuvo lugar (took place) al fin de la semana pasada y acabó de cumplir veintiséis años. Mi hermana no estaba en casa ese día. Ella se sentía deprimida. ¡Yo quería alegrarla! (I tried to use the imperfect here.) Invité a mis amigos: Momo y Mark.
English I gave my sister a surprise party! She is my best friend! My sister's birthday party was last weekend and she turned twenty-six years. My sister was out that day. She felt depressed. I wanted to cheer her up! I invited my friends Momo and Mark. I also invited my sister's childhood friend Nikki and her mother Carla. Before he came home, Momo, Mark and Nikki decorate the room with balloons, flowers and confetti. Nikki mother prepared a strawberry cake. I bought cookies, ice cream and chips. When my sister opened the door, later that night, we said "Surprise! Happy Birthday"! My sister was very happy! First we dance! Then Carla prepared tacos, fries and egg salad. I know there isn't enough imperfect words but I don't know how to use them right. It gets confusing...Please help. Gracias
Firstly, great attempt for a beginner in Spanish ...well done and thank you for completing your basic profile wink
I think that you could say:
Mi hermana no estaba en casa ese día. Se sentía deprimida Yo quería alegrarla! I
My sister was not at home that day (by implication: she was out) She felt depressed I wanted to cheer her up.
A point of grammar to help you:
Spanish natives never use apostrophes, so:
My sister's friend in Spanish is (translated as): la amiga de mi hermana, literally: the friend of my sister
or My friend's mother = La madre de mi amiga
I have also made some other corrections above which might prove helpful. I am an intermediate level student and am not fluent yet.
I hope this helps
