The Plessy v. Ferguson case upheld “separate but equal” as constitutional, which strengthened segregation policies. This was the Supreme Court judgment of 1896, which authorized state-sponsored discrimination. This consequence legitimized the rules about segregation which was designated as Jim Crow Laws. This sanctions racial segregation in the southerly part of the United States.

Further Explanation

In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson was a milestone judgment of the U.S. Supreme Court which supported the constitutionality of ethnic discrimination statutes for public facilities as long as the isolated facilities were similarly turned to be a doctrine which came to be recognized as "separate but equal".

The conclusion legitimized various state laws re-establishing racial discrimination which had been legislated in the American South after the termination of the Reconstruction Era.

The judgment included a case that dawned in 1892 when Homer Plessy, an "octoroon" inhabitant of New Orleans, intentionally disrupted Louisiana's Separate Car Act of 1890, which claimed "equal but separate" passenger car agreements for white and non-white customers.
