What is the meaning of Hawkeye's French name, La Longue Carabine?
n200080 [17]

Answer:

It means "the long carbine" or "the long rifle".

Explanation:

James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans" is a historical story about the Mohicans, especially the Iroquois Indians, and the battles they fought to try to keep their freedom. The story has also been adapted into a movie, directed by Michael Mann.

Hawkeye is the story's main hero, real name Natty Bumppo. He would help scout the land, and he is familiar with the land and its areas. Though affiliated and helped out the Indians more, he is a culturally mixed individual. And he carries a rifle named <em>"Killdeer"</em> which gave him the nickname "La Longue Carabine" which roughly translates to "The Long Carbine".

The word "science" is tricker to define
iris [78.8K]
I suspect that “trickier” is the proper word and that “tricker” is just a spelling error. “Trickier” means more difficult. “Science” is a tricky word because it derives from the Latin “scientia” which referred to knowledge in general. The English word “scientist” was not common, I think, until well into the 19th century and those we call “scientists” today were called “natural philosophers.” Today, “science” has a narrower meaning than it did before the 19th century.
