'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelley is a Gothic novel and a science fiction that embodies the elements of suspense, secrecy and speculates the advances in science. As per the question, the literary technique that has been reflected in this excerpt is "flashback", as Victor reminisces his past days with his sister Elizabeth, his friends and also brings back the repressed memories of his mother through the horror of the monster.
