The finishing times of a 5K race run by competitive male runners age 15-18 are approximately normal distribution with a mean tim

e of 18 minutes and a standard deviation of 2 minutes. A particularly tough 5K race tends to take these same runners 4.5 additional minutes. To earn a completion medal in this particular 5K race, the runner must complete the race within 25 minutes.

Answer:

10.56%

Explanation:

Finishing times by competitive male runners age 15-18 for the tough 5K race are approximately normally distributed with a mean of 18 + 4.5 = 22.5 minutes and a standard deviation of 2 minutes. (Adding 4.5 minutes to each runner’s time does not affect the standard deviation of the finishing times.) Using technology: normalcdf(lower: 25, upper: 10000, mean: 22.5, SD: 2) = 0.1056, so about 10.56% of competitive male runners in the 15-18 age bracket typically do not earn a completion medal at this race. Using z-scores and Table A: z = (25 – 22.5)/2 = 1.25. The area to the left of z = 1.25 is 0.8944, so the area to the right of z = 1.25 is 1 – 0.8944 = 0.1056 or 10.56%.

Describe the toxic effects of mercury and its compounds and explain how humans are exposed to these toxins?
geniusboy [140]

The inhalation of mercury vapor can produce harmful effects on the nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs and kidneys, and may be fatal. Mild, sub-clinical signs of central nervous system toxicity can be seen in workers exposed to an elemental mercury level in the air of 20 μg/m3 or more for several years.

Annotate the selected reading from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass chapter 6. Write a short journal response discuss
Darina [25.2K]

Answer and Explanation:

Notes: Slavery allows it to be so harmful that it changes even the most kind people, making them mean. Education empowers the oppressed. Education is a powerful weapon for blacks. Deprivation can be used as an incentive. Nobody liked to be called an oppressor, even though it was.

I decided to take notes on the most important themes exposed by Douglass. These themes were discovered by reading chapter 6 and by interpreting why Douglass decided to include these moments of his life in his narrative.

The first theme that I noticed is that slavery was widespread and prejudicial to everyone, even for the arms. Slavery placed cruelty in the hearts of white people and made them lose their kindness and kindness by becoming cruel and unworthy. I also noticed that white people were very afraid to allow blacks to have access to education. This is because education allowed the critical thinking that would give blacks the power to fight against the system that oppressed them.

Douglass was deprived of studying, but this deprivation motivated him to strive and receive an education that would make big differences in his life. Last but not least, we can see that the whites knew that the violence of slavery was incorrect, since they did not want them to know that they were extremely violent and oppressive to the slaves they owned.

The author uses several rhetorical strategies that range from personal statements, which increase our empathy for him, to logical and correct statements that show us how that whole slave system worked and how it was manipulated to last. This all causes an extension of what we know about slavery.
