Neoclassical painting

Edgar Degas's paintings reveal his interest in the candid attitudes found in street photography and the asymmetry of Neoclassical painting.

Edgar Degas was born on July 19, 1834, in Paris, France. Degas was an exceptional painter and sculptor. He became interested and passionate about photography in 1895 at the age of 61 and he portrayed himself, friends and family though his photographic work.

Most of his photographic work was developed in the evenings and during dinner activities. His photographic work is considered Neoclassical because it emphasized linear designs when depicting classical events and by using customs just to mention a few. Degas celebrated in his photography the values of simplicity and austerity. A clear example of his neoclassical photography is "The Apotheosis of Degas", 1885.
