Sierra has a total of 61 dimes and quarters. She has 3 more quarters than dimes. The coins have a value of $10.90. How many quar

ters and dimes does she have? [Hint: Use the decimal values of the c coins to write an equation.] (The instructions say "Write an equation and use the equation to solve the problem.")

Let the number of dimes be x and the number of quarters be y, then
x + y = 61 . . . . . . . . . . . .(1)
0.1x + 0.25y = 10.90 . . . (2)

From (1): x = 61 - y . . . . .(3)

Putting (3) into (2) gives: 0.1(61 - y) + 0.25y = 10.90
6.1 - 0.1y + 0.25y = 10.90
6.1 + 0.15y = 10.90
0.15y = 10.90 - 6.1 = 4.80
y = 4.80/0.15 = 32
x = 61 - 32 = 29

Therefore, there are 29 dimes and 32 quarters

GalinKa [24]

Answer:

cross multiply

(8m)(11)=(6)(3)

88m=18

then divide by 88 on both sides

m=18/88 then reduce by 2 -----> 9/44

Ne4ueva [31]
<span>The parking meter charges $2 per hour, means that each half hour costs $1.

Thus, 1$ pays for half an hour, so d $ pay for d half hours, that is d/2 hours, which is 0.5d hours.

15 minutes a quarter of an hour, which is 0.25 h.

Thus, the driver has a total of d/2 hours that she payed for, + 1/4 hour from the previous driver. These make a total of 3 hours, so we can set the equation:

3=0.5d+0.25

LMNP is a rectangle. If LN = 9x – 14 and MP = 7x + 4, find the values of x, LN, and MP.
Fittoniya [83]
I am thinking of a rectangle that has the two sides parallel to one another. Set the two functions equal to one another, so

9x-14=7x+4

After a bunch of algebra and math magic, 2x=18 => x=9

So if you just insert 9 into both equations, both will end up with a value of 67, so it ends up looking like a right triangle. Don't do that. Instead, to find the rectangle widths, use 9x-4 (+10 added to intercept) instead, while keeping 7x+4, so that the intercepts match.

LN) 9x-4 = 9(9)-4 = 81-4 = 77
MP) 7(9)+4 = 63+4 = 67

*If you are also looking for the diagonals, use Pythagorean Theorem 77^2+67^2=(hypotenuse)^2*

5-2(x+5)=3x-15 solve for X
Maslowich

Answer:

x= 2

Step-by-step explanation:

5 -2(x +5)= 3x -15

Expand:

5 -2x -2(5)= 3x -15

5 -2x -10= 3x -15

Simplify:

-2x -5= 3x -15

Bring x terms to 1 side, constant to the other:

3x +2x= 15 -5

5x= 10

Divide both sides by 5:

x= 10 ÷5

x= 2
