Northup’s narrative offers a first hands evidence of what it was like to be a slave. According to Northup, “there never was a more kind, noble, candid, Christian man than William Ford.” He tells of how On Sundays, Master Ford a slave owner made it a habit to gather his slaves for church service, preached to them and encouraged good moral behaviour. Northup develops an internal moral struggle by finding out that William Ford was a man of unquestioned Christian character. According to Northup “a model master, walking uprightly…. and fortunate was the slave that came to his possession.” The essential question being, how is it possible for a  “good” Christian man to participate so profoundly in the corrupted institution of slavery

What are some characteristics of 18th Century art in Europe?
vodomira [7]
The 18th Century art in Europe, Neoclassicism was the dominant artistic style in the 18th C with inspiration from the classical culture and art of Ancient Greece and Rome. Neoclassicism was strong in areas where classical examples were most i.e, painting, architecture, and sculpture.
The name Neoclassicism was given to Western movements in the decorative and visual arts, music, theatre, literature, and architecture with inspiration from the classical art of Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome.
The art of this period was characterized by clarity of form, shallow colors, strong horizontals and shallow space. The Neoclassicists believed strong drawing was supposed to be rational, therefore morally superior so, art should be cerebral not sensual.
The art o this period was strongest in Architecture, sculpture and Decorative Arts.
