In "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" we encounter a character who embodies the characteristics of the disillusionment that was common during the age of Modernism. He believes that his best moments are behind him, now that he is not young anymore. Moreover, he is frustrated with what he believes is a stagnant and mediocre life. He reflects on the life of famous historical characters, and suffers at the thought of how little he has achieved.
