Portugal established trading activities in China in 1513 when Jorge Alvares arrived.

In 1517 the King sent a mission and created a trade center at Nei Lingding.

Portugal and Ming Dynasty relationship gradually expanded but was deteriorated when Simão de Andrade arrived at Guangzhou in 1519. He violated their customs and laws, so Chinese people reacted by killing several Portuguese in the streets.

In 1521 the Emperor Zhengde died and the Ming Court lost interest in having relations with foreign countries.

There were two battles:

In 1521, every Portuguese vessel was confiscated and Chinese defeated a Portuguese fleet at The First Battle of Tamao

In 1522, Martim Alfonso de Merlo Coutinho was sent to establish diplomatic relations but the Chinese defeated them at The Second Battle of Tamao.

The Chinese resisted any Portuguese attempt to return. But in 1535 Portuguese Port Traders were allowed to anchor ships in Macau´s harbors and they could trade. Finally, in 1537 the Portuguese establish a little Colony at Macau to be administered by Chinese authorities.

Why did new towns spring up in places that were not near rivers or candles
Ne4ueva [31]

The correct answer is The towns sprang up along newly laid railroad tracks. Railroads could be built almost anywhere.

The construction of cities close to rivers and sources of drinking water is explained by several factors: availability of water for drinking and cooking; ability to offer soil fertility to enable planting; potential to sustain livestock production; ease of transport by river, etc.

In addition, this type of location still guaranteed greater protection against attacks by land, since the rivers delayed the entry of attackers in the defended territory.

ivolga24 [154]

Pork-barrel legislation deals with specific projects and their location within a particular congressional district.

What is Pork-barrel legislation?

Legislation is known as "pork barrel" stretches back to the early days of the Republic, when politicians frequently utilized it as a weapon to exchange favors for votes. Regular legislation seeks to benefit a wide range of people, but pork barrel legislation only benefits a small portion of the population despite being supported by the greater community. Politicians continuing to assist a select group of businesspeople could create crony capitalism. This group of businesspeople could continue to influence the election results through contributions to candidates' campaigns or other means.
