For primary succession to occur, there must be a pioneer species or dirt/soil.

Over hundreds of years these “pioneer species” convert the rock into soil that can support simple plants such as grasses. These grasses further modify the soil, which is then colonized by other types of plants. Each successive stage modifies the habitat by altering the amount of shade and the composition of the soil. The final stage of succession is a climax community, which is a very stable stage that can endure for hundreds of years.

What role do enzymes play in chemical reactions?
Naily [24]

Answer:

Enzymes allow many chemical reactions to occur within the homeostasis constraints of a living system. Enzymes function as organic catalysts. A catalyst is a chemical involved in, but not changed by, a chemical reaction. Many enzymes function by lowering the activation energy of reactions.

Explanation:

I believe this is correct, if not let me know and I will fix it. I'm sorry in advance if it is incorrect.

Vsevolod [243]

Answer: There's no way one species can become another through depuranization, which is a random change.

Explanation:

In cells, environmental (chemical or physical) and metabolic factors can cause DNA damage, which is the molecule that stores genetic material. In these cases, the damage done to the DNA is repaired.

<u>Many of these lesions cause a permanent structural damage to the DNA, which can alter the ability to be transcribed, or can cause mutated genes to be transcribed resulting in another protein.</u> Particularly, depurination is the hydrolytically cleavage of the β-N-glycosidic bond between the purines (adenosine or guanosine) and the carbon of the sugar group found in the DNA. This mutation results in the loss of the purine base and leads to the formation of apurinic site and results and severely disrupts the DNA structure. The most important causes of depurination is the presence of endogenous metabolites inside the cell as a result of various chemical reactions and due to the presence of mutagenic compounds. However, these apurinic sites <u>are usually repaired by portions of the base excision repair (BER) pathway</u>.

There's no way one species can become another through depuranization, which is a random change. Because it is highly unlikely that 5000 mutations are able to accumulate every day without being repaired, and that they are just the right mutations to have the same characteristics as a chimpanzee. <u>If the depurinations are not repaired, the cell will most likely either die or become cancerous.</u>

Marta_Voda [28]

Answer:

Ammonia feels slippery or soapy to the touch because<u> it is an [alkaline] base and can dissolve some of the fats and oils in your skin.</u>

Explanation:

The concept <em>alkali</em> refers to salts that contain alkali and alkaline earth metal elements. According to chemists, all alkaline solutions are <u>basic</u>.

Ammonia is an alkaline solution that, when combined with water, it actually makes soap. This base feels slippery to the touch because when it makes contact with all the oils that are naturally present in your skin, it produces soap, making it slippery and soapy.

Explain what happens to the actual image you see between the time you see it and it your brain registers it?
Lunna [17]

Visual information from the retina is relayed through the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus to the primary visual cortex — a thin sheet of tissue (less than one-tenth of an inch thick), a bit larger than a half-dollar, which is located in the occipital lobe in the back of the brain.
