How is it possible for Cupid and Psyche to be married?

Cupid is distracted with earthly women and Venus is unhappy with that because she wants cupid to marry a goddess. Cupid likes a human though named Psyche. Zeus later grants Psyche her wish to be a goddess so that cupid could marry her and that's what happens

This marriage is called a sacred marriage and it is the ultimate union of Cupid and Psyche. This reunion is depicted towards the end of the novel, before the events of wedding between the two. Cupid leaves his mother's house, finds Psyche and takes her to Venus. When he visits Jupiter, the latter confirms their consent in return for the future help from Cupid. Jupiter assigns Mercury to make public approval of the event and warns Venus when he gives Psyche ambrosia which is a drink of immortality.
