Which statement BEST summarizes the current approach of the U.S. Census Bureau to self-definitions of race? a) Each person recor
ded by the census must choose one race with which to identify. b) The U.S. Census Bureau eliminated "race" as a category in the 2010 census. c) The U.S. Census Bureau considers "race" and "ethnicity" as equivalent. d) Individuals may choose to identify themselves with more than one racial group.
Individuals may identify with more than one race group, since, in first place, the US has a big wave of immigrants which have a mixture of races in their DNA. Someone can be African American, American Indian, Hawaian, white, caucasian, among others. The US census Bureau gives a list of standards which can guide the person to choose his race according to what best represents his social group. The choice of race depends on how the person identifies himself as part of that race. For example, someone can identify as Hawaiian and African American, since I self- identify as belonging to these races, or social groups.
