The flashlight flickered and then died, plunging Wills into darkness. He reached into his pocket for fresh batteries and found,

like always, nothing. Hoping Anne would realize what had happened and come back and rescue him, he tapped the flashlight several times and frantically pushed the switch off and on, as if that would help. Nothing. Wills tapped the flashlight again, this time harder, and resorted to pleading. "Please," he muttered. "Please, turn on.
"Which statement best describes how the mood supports the overall meaning of the passage?
A.The terrifying mood supports the meaning that Anne does not like Wills very much.

Answer: B.The anxious mood supports the meaning that Wills needs to learn to be better prepared.

The mood throughout the passage is anxious, as we learn that Wills has been left alone and in the dark. Moreover, his speech transmitss this anxiety, as he pleads with the flashlight. We also learn that Wills is often unprepared by the line: "He reached into his pocket for fresh batteries and found, like always, nothing." We can infer from this statement that Wills' situation is likely a product of his own irresponsibility.

Which argument is most clearly making an ad hominem fallacy?
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

D. All I can say about my rival's idea is that he's a thief and he should be ignored.

Explanation:

Ad Hominem is a Latin word that means "against the man".

This particular fallacy of ad hominem is simply the act of going against sound logic when making an argument to make personal attacks on the speaker.

From the example above, there was a personal attack on the rival against his idea while bringing up the matter that he was a thief and should be ignored.

This is a very good example of Ad Hominem fallacy because he threw away sound logic while making his argument and instead chose personal attacks against his rival to score cheap points.

Answer:

1,3, and 4 are cooperative. 2 and 5 create conflict because of the argumentative tone.

Explanation:

3 could actually go either way because some people may argue, but it is asked in a reasonable tone so I would place it in the cooperative category with 1 and 4.

Determine if the following sentence is cited correctly.
vagabundo [1.1K]
It is cited correctly in case that we only have one work by Winston mentioned in our bibliography page. This way, we could turn to it and see the paper or the book and find it and on page 12 we would see the quote. If there were more papers by Winston used then you would also have to add the name of the paper or the book in the brackets.
