Because this story took place in the 1930s state of Alabama, it showed us through a fictional series of events the real events that took place; the mistakes we made, the problems we faced, the problems we caused. Because this takes place in a 1930s Alabama, one of the most segregated states, it shows us the true racism that took place at this time.
