As someone who writes books, I'd normally use quotation marks, and the person is obviously talking, so the first one should be correct.
Two reasons why writing to inform is creative writing is because it doesnt always have to be real and your using your own thought process.

Throughout Night, we see instances where the cruelty and dehumanization the Nazis showed towards Jewish individuals, similar treatment is shown with Jewish individuals towards one another.

Women's suffrage is basically the right to vote, but it means something more than that to us. It shows people that we are stronger than they think we are. We may not be as physically strong as men, but we are very strong. If we set our mind towards something we can and we will complete that. We are doing this to recieve the right to vote, but most of all we are doing this to show womens' worth.
