Functions are not always a straight line, no. a parabola is a function, and it forms a "U" shape. a straight line is called a LINEAR function, but there are many non-linear functions.

y = x does represent a function. while it doesn't look like it, this equation is still in slope-intercept, y = mx + b, form. the slope is just 1 and the y-intercept is 0, so what's left is the equation y = x. the definition of a function requires an output for every input, and this equation still works. try plugging in 1 for x:

y = (1)
y = 1

so when your input is 1, your output is also 1. look at the graph of y = x and you'll understand why this works. furthermore, while looking at the graph, you can double check that this is a function with the vertical line test (which makes sure that x values aren't repeated).

-2x-1 is less than or equal to 5 how can you solve it
aniked [119]
<u>Answer</u>

x ≥ -2

<u>Explanation</u>
The inequalities are solve the same way as algebra. This would be solve as follows.
-2x-1≤5
-2x≤5+1
-2x≤4

Divide both sides of the inequality by -2. This will change the sign from ≤ to ≥.

(-2x)/(-2) ≤ 4/(-2)
x ≥ -2

Independent compound event definition
Luden [163]

Answer:

Independent events occur when the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of the second event. Rolling a four has no effect on tossing a head. To find the probability of two independent events, multiply the probability of the first event by the probability of the second event.

Other answer:

A compound event is the combination of two or more simple events (with two or more outcomes). Compound Probabilities (with more than one outcome (desired result) within a trial ): • The probability of rolling an even number less than 5 on a die. (
