The Confrérie de la Passion, or English Confraternity of the Passion was. They were a group of actors and artist who presented religious plays. They had the permission of King Charles VI to produce plays in Paris in 1402, and then in 1518 their permits were renewed and reaffirmed, including the fact that no one besides The Confrérie de la Passion had permission to do plays in the city , which led them to monopolize the plays in Paris. The Confraternity built a new theater, the Hôtel de Bourgogne, which was completed in 1548. During that same year, they were prohibited from performing religious plays, which led them to stop acting in the next years.
