El Humanismo aparece en la época del Renacimiento en el siglo XV, en lo que ahora es Italia. Después de muchos años de la Época Obscura dela Edad Media, los autores comienzan a ver al humano como un ser pensante, capaz de crear con sus propias decisiones una mejor versión de la realidad. Más a allá del dogma religioso. el Humanismo abre paso a la idea de que el Humano es una creatura con facultad de decidir en su en torno con la naturaleza.

Durante el Renacimiento, acaudaladas familias como los Medici en Florencia, patrocinaron el trabajo de varios artistas, entre ellos, Miguel Ángel. Entre los ricos mecenas como los Medici y los artistas del Renacimiento, había una relación de protección muy notoria ya que las acaudaladas familias acogían al artista y lo apoyaban económicamente para que éstos realizaran bellos trabajos en templos, edificios e iglesias. Tal fue el caso de Miguel Ángel, Rafael, y Leonardo Da Vinci.
