The reason why railroads helped poorer immigrants from Eastern Europe to get to the United States was that the immigrants that were poor couldn't afford anything fancy to get to the seaports to sail to the U.S, so the railroads solve that. The seaports to go to the United States were all the way in Western Europe, and Eastern Europe is really far from there, so railroads helped make transportation a lot easier and faster from Eastern Europe to Western Europe. The railroads also made it safe when traveling.
