Transportation plays a vital role in every phase of consumerism. Right from the beginning when the raw materials are brought from the farmlands to the factory and when the processedgoods are taken to the wholesaler which is further distributed through one or two intermediarylayers to the retailer, transportation plays a major role in all these steps. Beside the linear model described above transportation also plays a role in providing logistics and support to the primary supply chain.
