The images provide detailed information that would have taken many paragraphs to explain. In addition, the images provide readers with a vivid pictorial presentation of the information in the paper. Because the picture are used to present the information in the paper, readers are much more likely to remember the information disclosed in the paper. As the old adage goes that says that "a picture if worth a thousand words." Captions are little explanatory notes that are placed under the figure. The captions provide the general information about the image and what is presents. It also provides the source of the image used in the write-up.
