Contrary to the beliefs of many child psychologists and developmentalists of the early to mid-1900s, ethologists like Konrad Lorenz contended in the latter half of the century that the moments after birth were vital to proper psychosocial development. As said by Lorenz and others, there is a serious period of only a few hours right after birth that initiates bonding, the close physical and emotional interaction between child and parent.
