The thirteen and fourteenth Amendments were passed in order to free the slaves after the civil war. Thirteenth amendment abolished the slavery and fourteenth amendment gave the slaves rights of US citizens.The fifteenth amendment was added later for protecting the rights of citizens irrespective of their caste.
