1. Which of these activities is the best example of cunning?

English

prohojiy [21]3 years ago

I think this is right but I'm not sure but I'll try my best

1) D because cunning refers to skill in deceit and trickery, and telling a convincing lie is the only option that involves both skill and deceit.

2) D because to speak to somebody in confidence means that you want to be confident that the information shared is between the group you share confidence with. Nurse wishes to speak to Romeo in confidence that he will not tell anybody because it is a secret and she wishes only for Romeo to know.

3) B because to counter something means to go against that thing. An example is a counter-argument, or an argument against another argument.

4) B because that is the act against someone. All the other options demonstrate a command, but not a countermand, if you get my gist.

5) A (i think) because the decision to get married was an unwise and hasty decision made of young lust, and ulimately caused the great tragedy. If Romeo and Juliet had taken things slower, things might've been possible renegotiated or at least thought over.

6) B because Friar Lawrence is really Romeo's 'father figure' because his father is so often absent in his life. He acts as a mentor and tries to help Romeo get married to his love.

How does the author use irony to develop the theme of the poem? Cite evidence from the text to support your response.
astra-53 [7]

In poetry and literature, irony is used as a rhetorical or literary technique to elaborate on what something appears to be on the surface in contrast to what it actually is. In the text, situational irony is used when the traveller speaks of the king's words engraved on the pedestal. Ozymandias, the king, is proud of his amazing works and of all he constructed in his lifetime, believing that would make him mighty for all time. However, nothing remains around the pedestal; the desert's sands have engulfed all of his colossal works. Therefore, it is the contradiction between what is boasted (that is, the amazing constructions) versus what is actually there (a large stretch of sand and decay) that constitutes the irony in the passage.

Alexeev081 [22]

The answer is: how hot the spear is.

An epic simile, or Homeric simile, is a comparison between something familiar or ordinary and something strange. It is usually many lines long and it helps the reader make the scene described, usually at moments of turmoil or battle, more vivid. In the epic simile above, Homer makes the reader understand how hot the spear that blinds the cyclops is by comparing the eye of the cyclops to a cold tub as the spear that blinded him penetrates it, just like a piece of metal would enter a tub in order to be molded.
