The goal of this story is to boost Fortunato's ego and make him feel like he would be the only one trusted to judge the quality of Amontillado. By playing with Fortunato's ego, the narrator is guaranteeing that Fortunato will follow him down into the catacombs without hesitation. Throughout the story, Montressor feeds Fortunato's ego and pretends to care about Fortunato's health. All these "concerns" are really tricks to get Fortunato to trust him and not go back up to the party.

The Cask of Amontillado is a literary piece of the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe. It is a story of revenge of a man to his drunken friend, Fortunato who pretends to be an expert of wines. The scene here is that man sees Fortunato in the carnival and asks his dear friend to join him drink Amontillado. The context of the passage is B) so that Fortunato could come to him and carry out his revenge.
