United States President Woodrow Wilson wanted to establish a long-lasting peace agreement at the end of World War 1. That is why he came up with what was known as the "14 Points." It was his idea of peace in Europe. However, European superpowers such as France and Great Britain wanted retribution and demanded Germany to pay for the destruction caused during the war. More than peace, Western European countries wanted retribution. The Treaty of Paris was signed on June 28, 1919, in the famous Versailles Palace, close to Paris, France.
