In his famous speech at the March on Washington in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I have a dream that my four little ch

ildren will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Theodore Taylor published The Cay six years later, in 1969. The dedication to the novel read: “To Dr. King’s dream, which can only come true if the very young know and understand.” What does Taylor want young people to “know and understand”? How will this help Dr. King’s dream come true? Explain what the dedication means and how the message of the book is connected to Dr. King’s dream. Use at least two details from the novel to support your answer.

well to answer the first question Theodore would want the the young people to know and understand racism and why it is wrong. For the second question this will help Dr. Kings dream because the youth is the future of the country. Idk how to answer the last question because it has been years since I have read this book, although, I hope I helped!!!

Answer:

I think that Taylor wants young people to understand, that no matter what the skin color, or the race, treat people equally, because one day, they might be your only way of survival.

In the story of The Cay, Phillip learns to realize that Timothy was his only way of survival, even though in the beginning, he thought that an old black man wouldn't be any use for him. Turns out, he was wrong, he began to realize that Timothy wasn't only an old black man, he was a friend.

I personally think that Timothy would be one of the greatest friends that Phillip might have, because it is very rare for a friend, anyone in fact, to barely risk their life to help save someone. Especially when you must experience being blind and having to rely on someone for survival.

Why does Odysseus take the wine as well as his twelve best fighting men? What conclusion can you draw about whether or not this
igomit [66]

He is going to attack the cyclops by getting them drunk.

Explanation:

 • The epic is about his ten-year struggle tand his wish to go home after the Trojan War. He battles mystical creatures and finally succeeds.
 • Though Odysseus encounters beautiful scenery and people, he is sad and wants to go home and meet his parents. His crew raid rob and kill the Cyclops.
 • In his expedition, the lotus-eaters posed threat to Odysseus. Those who ate the plant will choose to stay in that place and lose their hope of going home. So his crew members lost hope of going home.
 • This shows Odysseus was a great leader and wanted to save his men. he took wine and twelve men and make the cyclopes drunk so he could fight and win.
