The correct answer is B.

Explanation:

A is certainly not the answer because 1. they wouldn't hear the sirens in the first place, and 2. they would be there to attack so they wouldn't go away... C. is not correct, though it's a good guess because the narrator wasn't hearing any sirens and he KNEW that they were German planes. D. is not correct because there have been attacks during the day and it was a tactic that was used a lot so that the bombers could see the targets. Thus, the only right answer is B. because German Pilots would need great bravery to fly so low in the enemy territory without any backup.
