A nurse is developing a teaching plan for a client with asthma. Which teaching point has the highest priority?
Juliette [100K]

If a nurse is developing a teaching plan for a client with asthma, the highest priority teaching point should be -  take ordered medications as scheduled.

Asthma is an obstructive lung disease in which inflamed airways impede airflow at various levels.

Unlike his other COPD disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma is transient and reversible both alone and after treatment.

Asthma has many causes, from allergens to triggers such as certain proteins in your diet.

These include (but are not limited to):

  • House dust mites
  • Tobacco smoke
  • Wood and grass pollen
  • Exhaust fumes
  • Perfume
  • Colds and chest infections can exacerbate asthma , as well as stress and worry.
  • Common foods and drinks that trigger asthma attacks are nuts, shellfish, and alcohol.

Because the signs and symptoms of asthma are easy to identify, one should see a doctor as soon as he/she notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Difficulty in breathing. There is a general feeling of tension, which can lead to shortness of breath.
  • Wheezing. You may hear a wheezing sound when you first exhale and then inhale.
  • Asthma attacks often occur at night or early in the morning.
  • An asthma exacerbation is often preceded by an exacerbation of symptoms over several days, but may begin suddenly.
  • Process is labour intensive and time consuming
