QUICK PLEASE HELP! Read the excerpt from Brighton Beach Memoirs, by Neil Simon. Act One Brighton Beach, New York. September 1937

. A wooden frame house, not too far from the beach. It is a lower-middle-income area inhabited mostly by Jews, Irish and Germans. The entrance to the house is to the right: a small porch and two steps up that lead to the front door. Inside we see the dining room and living-room area. Another door leads to the kitchen… A flight of stairs leads up to three small bedrooms. Unseen are two other bedrooms. A hallway leads to other rooms… It’s around six-thirty and the late-September sun is sinking fast. KATE JEROME, about forty years old, is setting the table. Her sister, BLANCHE MORTON, thirty-eight, is working at a sewing machine. LAURIE MORTON, aged thirteen, is lying on the sofa reading a book. Outside on the grass stands EUGENE JEROME, almost but not quite fifteen. He is wearing knickers, a shirt and tie, a faded and torn sweater, Keds sneakers and a baseball cap. He has a beaten and worn baseball glove on his left hand, and in his right hand he holds a softball that is so old and battered that it is ready to fall apart. Which line from the excerpt is an example of character?

valina [46]

After reading the sentences, we can tell we are supposed to use the words in parentheses to form phrases that will complete the blank spaces. We can do it in the following manner:

  1. My brother <u>was on his own</u> when the accident happened.
  2. I <u>gave up on reading</u> the book after the first three chapter because it was so boring.
  3. The heat <u>made it impossible fo</u>r me to get on with my work.

This question requires knowledge about collocations.

<h3>What are collocations?</h3>
  • Collocations are words that are often used together in order to convey meaning. Their joint usage is so common that we say they sound good and natural together.
  • Let's use number 1 above as an example. We must use the word "own" to fill in the blank. We also know that we should say something implying that the brother was alone.
  • The best option is to say <u>he was on his own</u> when the accident happened. "To be on one's own" means to be alone, and it is a common phrase (collocation) to use and express such meaning.

Which statement best describes a valid scientific claim? A.The results of the experiment can be replicated by using any method o
masya89 [10]
I think the best answer from the choices listed above is option D. A valid scientific claim is best described by the statement "<span>The claim is supported by at least ten scientists in addition to the original researcher</span>". This is because this claim is being supported by a number of experts in that certain field.

Basile [38]
A time I felt successful was when I beat my sibling/friend at Mario cart. They always beat me but for the first time I won and they didn’t go easy on me.

I was in my/there house playing on the WiiU.

We were playing Mario Cart and I was Princess Peach.

I was with sibling name/friend name.

I felt excited and also as if the world stopped for a few seconds. I felt a joyful burst of emotions and energy that I’ve never felt before. Sure this was a simple task, but this was the first time I ever felt so accomplish and happy in the longest time. Whenever we played, it was boring and we knew who was going to win. However, I finally won and now I can’t wait to play next time.
