A manufacturer of small appliances purchases plastic handles for coffeepots from an outside vendor. If a handle is cracked, it i

s considered defective and must be discarded. A large shipment of plastic handles is received. The proportion of defective handles p is of interest. How many handles from the shipment should be inspected to estimate p to within 0.1 with 95% confidence? (Enter your answer as a whole number.)

Answer:

n=\frac{0.5(1-0.5)}{(\frac{0.1}{1.96})^2}=96.04

And rounded up we got:

n\approx 97

Step-by-step explanation:

Data given and previous concepts

ME=0.1 represent the margin of error desired

Confidence =0.95 or 95%

\alpha=0.05 represent the significance level

z represent the quantile from the normal standard distribution

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The population proportion have the following distribution

p \sim N(p,\sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}})

Solution to the problem

In order to find the critical value we need to take in count that we are finding the interval for a proportion, so on this case we need to use the z distribution. Since our interval is at 95% of confidence, our significance level would be given by \alpha=1-0.95=0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025. And the critical value would be given by:

z_{\alpha/2}=-1.96, z_{1-\alpha/2}1.96

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\hat p \pm z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{n}}

The margin of error for the proportion interval is given by this formula:

ME=z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{n}}    (a)

And on this case we have that ME =\pm 0.1 and we are interested in order to find the value of n, if we solve n from equation (a) we got:

n=\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{(\frac{ME}{z})^2}   (b)

Since we don't have a prior estimate for the proportion \hat p we can use as estimator 0.5 and replacing into equation (b) the values from part a we got:

n=\frac{0.5(1-0.5)}{(\frac{0.1}{1.96})^2}=96.04

And rounded up we have that n=97

Given: △ACM, m∠C=90°, CP ⊥ AM
larisa86 [58]

Answer:  The answer is 3\dfrac{4}{7}.

Step-by-step explanation:  Given in the question that ΔAM is a right-angled triangle, where ∠C = 90°, CP ⊥ AM, AC : CM = 3 : 4 and MP - AP = 1. We are to find AM.

Let, AC = 3x and CM = 4x.

In the right-angled triangle ACM, we have

AM^2=AC^2+CM^2=(3x)^2+(4x)^2=9x^2+16x^2=25x^2\\\\\Rightarrow AM=5x.

Now,

AM=AP+PM=AP+(AP+1)\\\\\Rightarrow 2AP=AM-1\\\\\Rightarrow 2AP=5x-1.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(A)

Now, since CP ⊥ AM, so ΔACP and ΔMCP are both right-angled triangles.

So,

CP^2=AC^2-AP^2=CM^2-MP^2\\\\\Rightarrow (3x)^2-AP^2=(4x)^2-(AP+1)^2\\\\\Rightarrow 9x^2-AP^2=16x^2-AP^2-2AP-1\\\\\Rightarrow 2AP=7x^2-1.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(B)

Comparing equations (A) and (B), we have

5x-1=7x^2-1\\\\\Rightarrow 5x=7x^2\\\\\Rightarrow x=\dfrac{5}{7},~\textup{since }x\neq 0.

Thus,

AM=5\times\dfrac{5}{7}=\dfrac{25}{7}=3\dfrac{4}{7}.

Find the area of a trapezoid with bases 2ft and 3ft and height 1/3 foot. Round your answer to the nearest tenth
amid [387]

Answer:

Area = 5/6 of a foot^2

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula

Area of a trapezoid (formula) = 1/2 (b1 + b2)*h/2

Givens

  • b1 = 2 feet
  • b2 = 3 feet
  • h = 1/3 foot

Solution

Area = 1/2(2 + 3)*1/3

Area = 1/2(5)* 1/3

Area = (1/2 * 1/3) * 5

Area = (1/6) * 5

Area = 5/6

5$ is the cost and the cost per ride is 50 cent , if your parents give you 20$ . Write and solve a linear equation to find how m
Lesechka [4]

ANSWER= 30 rides

STEP-BY-STEP EXPLANATION

y=mx+b

m= $0.5 (per ride)

b= $5 (the cost)

x(rides)  and y(parents money)

y= 0.5 x + 5

20= 0.5 x +5

20 - 5 = 0.5 x

15=0.5x

x= \frac{15}{0.5}

x=30 rides
