Is all evidence important to solving a case? How do forensic scientists determine what is important?

Answer:  Evidence can be described as the material placed before a court for the purpose of assisting a judge to reach a decision in the matter. A Judge's decision is limited to the evidence placed before them, therefore IT IS IMPORTANT that a party provide as much relevant evidence as possible to support the case.

Evidence aids in the solution of a case, provides an element of the crime, such as fear or force, and proves a theory in the case. Evidence will either prove or disprove statements of what may or may not have happened.

Crime scene investigators collect evidence such as fingerprints, footprints, tire tracks, blood and other body fluids, hairs, fibers and fire debris. They Interview witnesses/people involved to establish the theory of the case, examine the scene using a systematic search method, and photograph the scene, the evidence, the body to get detailed pictures of what everything looked like at that moment.

 

Forensic science allows authorities to do everything from positively identifying a suspect in a crime to determine exactly when and how a crime occurred.      

Forensic scientists will determine the most important information that will assist the most in a case, to help identify criminals and gather enough evidence against them. Any evidence is helpful during an investigation.
